Well its been an interesting weekend so far, there was I, nursing a cold and thinking I didn't need to worry about my voice until Sunday when *BAM* - two last minute gigs landed on my lap!
So I've played Friday at the National Hunt and Saturday (tonight) I'll be at The Station Hotel....
Not being one to let people down I jumped at the chance to swing in an impress them, but it left me wondering why people leave venues in these predicaments? If I'm ill I'll always find a replacement, or do the gig myself if the needs be (New Years Eve 2012 was a prime example, a 2.5 hr set with e-coli my poor band-mates!!) but people who just cancel for 'no reason' I don't understand. I suspect that it's likely they've found work elsewhere that's paying them more - but this isn't on, you don't jit's a tough game, gigging, but by letting people down, no mater how good you may be, you get a reputation - and that's something that I really don't want to have.
So please, feel free to carry on pulling out of gigs, random people, but understand that there are plenty of people like me who will back-fill you and won't pull out of something if we're booked... In short - don't let your ego take you for a ride, and always do what you said you'd do x
