I felt lost I couldn't see a way out Storm gathers overhead Its too soon for it to rain down
A tempest raging in the dark Can I control it, I control it, I control it?
I FOLLOW MY HEART RIGHT THROUGH THIS STORM But it's hard to love when your heart's stillborn Your broken pieces all around my bed I pick them up, still cherry red I see you You think you're better than me You're harbouring dark thoughts too It's too soon for you to break through
All these things I've seen Watched myself from a dream Lying in bones and dust Consumed by my lust
What you gonna do when I come for you? What you gonna do when I come for you?
I feel you Underneath my skin You think you're stronger then me I won't give in
CHORUS My broken pieces all around this bed I pick them up, still cherry red.
Welcome to Blog #2 in the Reclaim; Set Fire lyrics series! Today I wanted to cover Heartstorm, the first song I wrote for the album. Firstly - I'd like to inform you that Heartstorm is written in 15/8 (WTF Alex?!) ...with a rocking 4/4 chorus (which is a relief after all that counting for the backline) ... it also means when it kicks in it REALLY kicks in!
So what's it about? Well, there's always been an internal struggle within myself between darkness and light. It's something I've battled with for a long time - balancing between my mental health issues and attempted recovery. A lot of you will recognise this as a major theme from Breaking Out as well. All in all, Reclaim; Set Fire is an album that takes this further into acceptance and reclaiming myself then ever before. There's a focus on self-empowerment enabling me to become the artist I always wanted to be. I really hope that there's a lot within these songs will help others to do the same too.
As always, shoot away in the comments with any questions! Vxx
